We will pick you up in the morning at your hotel and drive approximately one hour to Marangu Gate. After registration at the Marangu Gate, you will start hiking through montane forest, which is a rain-forest or dense forest. Here you will get a beautiful view of forest animals, birds and breathtaking scenery. Halfway through the hike you will have lunch. Once you reach Mandara Huts you will have a chance to rest before dinner.
Breakfast will be served by 07:30. After breakfast, we will hike through a different yet equally beautiful geographical zone which is called moorland or heather land. Here you will see giant lobelias/groundsels and small shrubs. When we arrive at the Horombo Huts you can unpack and rest before dinner; you will have a clear view of Kibo summit.
Breakfast will be served by 07:30. We will hike through the alpine desert, crossing through sweeping saddle which connects Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. When you stop for lunch, and later when you cross this surprisingly large saddle, you can examine the summit climb up Kibo that you will start in just a few hours. Unpack, then rest and wait for dinner at Kibo Huts where you will sleep.
Today is the summit day (Uhuru Peak 19340ft). We will serve you a light breakfast a little before midnight. In preparing for the summit, make sure you have warm gear/ clothes with you. Leaving at 12:00am, we will switch back up steep scree and possibly snow. We will reach Gilmans Point 18640 ft/ 5861m which is at the rim of the crater where we will have a view of the crater and the eastern glacier. From there, you will walk the rim of the crater crossing Stella Point to UHURU PEAK 19340ft/5895m, the highest peak in Mountain Kilimanjaro. We will spend time taking pictures and you can congratulate yourself for reaching Africa’s highest peak. Afterward, we will descend back to Kibo Hut and have lunch before descending to Horombo Hut where we will have dinner and rest.
After breakfast, you will pack and start descending through the moorland to the Mandara Huts where we will have lunch. You will then continue your triumphant trek down through lush rain forest to the Marangu Gate. The guides will take you back to the hotel, where it is definitely time to celebrate!
